Behind the preservation and protection of this environment stands the Port Owen Property Owners Association (POPOA) — a registered community organisation committed to representing and safeguarding the interests of property owners.

Established in 2007 and registered with the Bergrivier Municipality, POPOA plays an active and ongoing role in maintaining the well-being, safety, infrastructure, and aesthetic appeal of Port Owen.

OUR MISSION: PROTECTING PROPERTY OWNERS’ INTERESTS

POPOA serves as a strong and structured community body, actively engaging with local authorities and relevant stakeholders to ensure:

Our mandate is simple: protect and enhance the value and quality of life in Port Owen.

WHAT POPOA ACTIVELY DOES FOR THE COMMUNITY

1. MUNICIPAL MATTERS & INFRASTRUCTURE OVERSIGHT

POPOA represents property owners in critical municipal discussions and ensures that service delivery concerns are addressed.

Our work includes:

• Monitoring building sites to ensure sanitation compliance and proper rubble management
• Preventing illegal overnight stays on construction premises
• Communicating with the municipality regarding roads, water, sanitation, and property use complaints
• Reporting overgrown erven that may pose security risks

Two POPOA committee members serve on the Ward Committee, where they provide input on infrastructure maintenance budgets, development planning, and safety matters.

2. MARINA & WATERWAY REPRESENTATION (POMA)

Port Owen’s marina and canal system are central to the character and value of the area.

Two POPOA members serve on the Port Owen Marina Authority (POMA) Board, which oversees:

• Maintenance of the marina
• Canal and loop management
• Upkeep of adjoining open spaces

This ensures that waterways remain well-managed and protected for current and future residents.

3. SECURITY & COMMUNITY SAFETY

Safety remains a top priority.

POPOA established the E-Watch Initiative, a neighbourhood watch programme that:

• Works closely with the South African Police Service (SAPS)
• Engages with the Community Police Forum (CPF)
• Conducts patrols to enhance visible community safety

Many residents have already seen volunteers actively patrolling — a visible reminder of the collective effort to keep Port Owen secure.

4. BROADER COMMUNITY REPRESENTATION

POPOA also represents Port Owen at:

• The Ward Council
• The Bergrivier Estuary Advisory Forum (BEAF)

This ensures that our community’s interests are considered in wider regional planning and environmental discussions.
